Any reason an ECM computer can fry?

I recently took my 94 Honda Passport to a local shop for a clutch inspection, I was told that in order for them to inspect it they had to remove the transmission.Later come to find out I needed a clutch set, flywheel, etc… the service manager called me back to inform me he had good new and bad news, First, the good new was that the radiator had not been leaking coolant, second, the clutch set was placed in the car the technician that worked on the car took it out for a test drive and it ran beautifully, However, when the technician shut the car off and attempted to start it up it would not start.Service manager saidengine would not crank and there was no spark, it must be an electrical problem he said.Diagnostic determined ECM computer had been fried.I told them to leave my car alone and I would find a way to get it out of their shop.Service manager called back w/in 30 min advising me he spoke to his boss and they would give me the computer discounted and I told him I should not have to pay for all I know the technician that worked on my car could have possibly fried the computer. They would not own up to their mistake that cost me more money so I ended up paying almost $400 just because it was going to be 4th of July weekend and did not want my vehicle sitting in their shop any longer plus I need transportation for work. Can anyone please give me advice? Could it be possible that the technician when placing the transmission back into the vehicle could have fried the ECM computer?how do ECM computers fry? How can I prove in small claims court that my car was running properly when I left it in the shop’spossession?

It is extremely rare for an ECU (ECM) to fail unless it gets wet or is shorted – see the first source, which matches my experiences. I have seen a lot of good ECUs condemned because of poor troubleshooting, but the only ones I have ever seen go bad got very wet first.

The BBB is a good first place to go for this. The BBB will take your complaint and circulate a questionnaire among shops from the same peer group, asking whether the situation sounds right to them. The name of the shop involved is not released. The results are presented to the shop involved with a recommendation to make an offer to help settle the issue more amicably for all involved in light of the peer survey results. When I was a service manager in an avionics shop I was on both ends of the process and it resulted in us discounting half our labor time on a job when we were the subject. In your case I would expect a good outcome.

Water boiling out of reservoir on my 1995 Honda Accord?

within 10 mins. of driving my car I can hear sizzling sounds coming from under my hood. When I opened it I saw water sizzling out of my reservoir cap, no where else. Also my gauges started going up showing my car was over heating. Sometimes it will show it over heating, however, there are times the water will be coming out with lots of pressure out of the reservoir but my gauges don’t show it over heating. Please any suggestions will help..thank you…

Either the radiator cap is bad or the radiator has cracked near the neck. Look more closely when it hisses; if the leak is right at the cap, a replacement cap (insist on OEM at the parts store or go to the dealer) will fix it. If the leak is at the bottom of the neck, where it meets the top of the radiator, the radiator has to be replaced. I like aftermarket radiators but aftermarket radiator caps are serious junk.

Your car should have a thermostat. Without it your fuel economy will be terrible. It’s easy enough to tell if you have a thermostat installed and working. Start the car when it is cold and open the hood. Feel the temperature of the upper radiator hose (the one right there at the top) as the engine warms up. It should stay room temperature until the engine is fully warmed up, then should rather suddenly become too hot to hold. If it gradually gets warmer as the engine warms up your thermostat is stuck open or missing.

Have you Tried Replacing the Thermostat yet?Its a Very Cheap and Normally Very easy Part to replace.

check your radiator cap. i had the same problem and the cap was faulty

2000 Honda accord won’t start at random, turns over but no fire?

my 4 cylinder 2000 Honda accord coupe has had a issue starting laity, the tank is full of gas and it is run on a regular basis, but once and a while you will get in and it won’t start. the engine turns over like normal but it will not start. my guess is something to do with the fuel system but I’m not sure what it would be? any idea’s?
i was thinking of changing the fuel pump but it will work for a while and then just one time i won’t start, just turns over and over, and a while later it will. so I’m confused. it has had some electrical problems too, so maybe there’s something that tells the pump to work or some electrical pump part that isn’t working. has anyone had similar issues and found a solution?
thanks for your help!

Does it sputter when you have this problem, or does it keep cranking continuously, with only the sound of the starter motor? From what you said, it sounds like it doesn’t sputter (try to start), so:

Is your engine immobilizer light blinking when you try to crank the engine? It is the key icon in your instrument panel. If it is, that means there is an issue with your key communicating with the engine computer (ECU). This will prevent the ECU from commanding the fuel injectors to open, causing a no-start condition. Try using a spare key instead of the one you normally use.

If it does sputter, then write back. There are other things you should test.

I have the exact same problem with mine

Here are three pictures of my car.Kelly Blue Book says $4,210.I think it would be worth more do to it being custom. It has been keyed all the way around and on the hood. So it would need a paint job, you just cant see it because of the lighting.

Where and what to get for my f22b2 complete build?

Hi i am going to be taking on a full f22b2 build on my 96 accord and was having a hard time finding parts and i could really use some help. I would like to know where i could get everything and how much it may be. I would be interested in forged pistons, rods, and rod bearings. Where to get my block and head bored out and how much that might be. Titanium valves, racing valve springs, racing camshaft and cam gear also an ecu that does not have a limiter on it. I would really appreciate any help thanks!

Engine clatter on acceleration. Any ideas?

1.6L Civic. Clatter is only audible AFTER warm-up. Is at its loudest from 2000-2500 RPM. Only on partial-throttle acceleration (quite at full throttle). Not at idle, not while coasting, not while maintaining speed. Only under acceleration.

Won’t do it (or just can’t hear it) in 1st or 2nd gear. Does it in all other gears.

Suspect carbon build up on the backs of the valves. This is causing a pre ignition ping or knock. A product called SEA FOAM is great at removing this build up and it sells for about $10.00 per can. You will be surprised at the results. Good Luck and this is a cheap fix.

Might want to have the gear box, transmission checked. The teeth on the gears get worn down if it is an older model.

maybe a misfire. Check the plugs and wires.
